What is NUCCA?

A Specific Chiropractic Technique

NUCCA stands for National Upper cervical association and is a specific technique practiced by only a small number of qualified practitioners.

A Gentle Correction

A gentle touch and controlled contact on the first vertebrae in the neck is designed to restore balance to the spine. Even though the primary focus is the neck, the effects of the correction influences the whole spine and all body systems. This is because the NUCCA procedure influences one of the highest control centers over body balance, the brain stem and central nervous system. The C-1 vertebrae, also known as the Atlas, is a small donut-like bone located at the top of the spine and the base of the skull that surrounds the brain stem. When the spine is subjected to stress it can become misaligned. This phenomenon is known as the Atlas Subluxation Complex Syndrome (ASC) or the ASC Syndrome.

The Balancing Act

The nerves in our spinal column are very sensitive to pressure and stress. When the spine becomes misaligned sufficiently it stresses the nerves, compromises their normal impulses, and changes function throughout the body. Nerves are responsible for four primary functions:

1. Control and regulate all vital functions including circulation, breathing and digestion.

2. Activate muscles  allowing us to move.

3. Allow us to sense, perceive and feel.

4. Relate us to the world outside ourselves including earning, experiencing and behavior.

Small Adjustments, precise and accurate

The upper cervical adjustment depends upon precise mathematical calculations, physics, and biomechanics. X-rays are a critical part of ensuring the spinal correction is accurate and successful. The doctor will take pre-adjustment x-rays from different angles focusing on the atlas. These x-rays determine the direction and degree of spinal misalignment and how to properly restore the spine to normal.

Who is trained to deliver a NUCCA Correction

While there are many upper cervical techniques, few are experienced and licensed as a NUCCA practitioners

Dr. Philip A. Arnone, BS. DC. DABCI

Dr. Arnone has almost 20 years of experience practicing chiropractic and has treated over 8,000 patients during this time. After graduating from Fordham University with a Bachelors of Science, he received his Doctor of Chiropractic Degree from the oldest and most respected chiropractic university, Palmer University. After another 4 years of study Dr. Arnone received his Diplomat from the American Board of Chiropractic Internists (DABCI) through Parker University. Dr. Arnone has owned and directed the Balanced Body Center in Matthews for 15 years and enjoys one of the finest reputations in the Charlotte area. While the clinic serves as health resource for the local area there are many patients that drive in excess of 2 hours for the unique care programs that Dr. Arnone has created. As one of the largest and most respected clinics in the Charlotte area, many professionals such as Medical Physicians, Dentists and Podiatrists refer their most difficult cases to the office.

While there are many effective chiropractic techniques, Dr Arnone believes he has adopted the best and safest of those systems for his patients. Dr Arnone is the only NUCCA practitioner in the state of NC and one of only 300 in the entire country. Due to the complexity of the technique and the long learning curve there are very few practitioners that can ever master this technique.

In addition to NUCCA, Dr Arnone is dedicated to utilizing techniques that are gentle, yet effective for improving symptoms quickly and correcting structural problems thus preventing relapse and ensuing greater health. Recognizing that each patient can be different and complex, Dr Arnone has added other services to the clinic including a staff Physical Therapist, Nurses and 5 massage therapists.

As a certified Diplomat of the American Board of Chiropractic Internists, Dr Arnone has created a health center dedicated to helping his patients discover natural solutions to many health conditions. The Balanced Body Center has a full diagnostic and treatment facility including X rays, State of the Art Chiropractic techniques, Decompression Therapy, Physical Therapy, Massage Therapy, Low Level Laser Therapy, Bone Density, Vascular Ultrasounds, Electrocardiograms, Surface EMG testing, Computerized Lung Functions, General Blood Chemistry Studies, Delayed Food Sensitivity Tests, Amino Acid Testing, Gastrointestinal Function testing, Neurotransmitter testing, Male Hormone testing and Female Hormone testing.

While most of his time is spent caring for patients, Dr. Arnone frequently gives lectures educating both organizations and physicians on the mechanisms and treatments available to live a healthy life. He currently serves as the Vice President for The Council on Diagnosis and Internal Disorders. He is responsible for bringing together Medical Physicians, chiropractor physicians, Naturopathic Physicians and other health care professionals once a year in an annual symposium to continue the advancement of natural medicine.

What is NUCCA and Advanced Orthogonal?

The NUCCA and Advanced Orthogonal Approach:

A Gentle Correction A gentle touch and controlled contact on the first vertebra in the neck is designed to restore balance to the spine and nervous system. Even though the adjustment is administered at the neck, the efforts of the correction influences the whole spine and ALL body systems.

This is because the NUCCA and Advanced Orthogonal procedures influence one of the highest control centers of body balance and healing, the brain stem and central nervous system.

The C-1 vertebra, also known as the Atlas, is a small donut–like bone located at the top of the spine and the base of the skull that surrounds the brain stem. When the spine is subjected to stress it can become misaligned.

This phenomenon is known as the Atlas Subluxation Complex Syndrome (ASC) or ASC syndrome. Implications on Your Health: The nerves in the spinal column are very sensitive to pressure and stress. When the spine becomes misaligned sufficiently, it stresses the nerves which compromises the transmission of information between the brain and the body. Ultimately, nerve pressure will alter function throughout the entire body.
